September 20, 2001 Our beloved USA is at war. Tragedy has already touched the lives of many: the victims and their families, as well as those who risked (as well as lost) their lives in recovery efforts. Others face economic impact. Most of us are united in our grief and sorrow. Anybody who's recently tried to buy a US flag in a local store or on the internet realizes how united we feel as Americans. We are in shock. We are angry. We feel helpless. Our lives have changed... Personally, I have a myriad of feelings regarding the situation. I wonder why people got displaced in the creation of Israel. I wonder why each supportive nation didn't "donate" land, much like Indian Reservations are carved out across the US today. I wonder why we can't do that now... I am appalled by the thought of "Holy Wars," but also realize much of the world does not separate religion from State. I wonder how violence can end violence, and I am frightened. I empathize not only with "our" losses, but with the losses "the enemy" as well as our allies have endured over time. Regardless, it's come to this now. And, first and foremost, I am an American (one of those who can't find a nice, big fat flag to fly on my lawn). My readers know I support our President. In fact, I can't think of anybody else's hands I'd rather be in now. That's my two cents. I created this board in response to readers who have been sending me their views. Please feel free to post them here. But please don't blast the US; that won't fly here. May God bless us all. Doc |
