The Same Site?

Huh? Are We Talking About the Same Site?

November 20, 2001

I got this email today. My initial reaction was reaction was, "Huh? Are we talking about the same site?"

Then I wondered what article he had read (or more likely, misread), and almost emailed him to ask. But, I chose not to waste my energy engaging in debate or trying to convince him that sexism or bashing of any type is not condoned site-wide.

I wondered if this was some sort of publicity gimmick to sell a book. After all, this site gets extensive traffic and this guy is selling a book (that was well rated by Amazon readers, by the way).

Oh well, to each his own. It's certainly, uh... interesting. And since I'm not one to hide from this type of stuff or feel shame/ guilt/ anxiety over other people's stuff, I decided to publish it. Verbatim.

Subject: Countering your malice

"As a forensic psychologist daily involved in addressing the results of violence, and who has personally been brutally and repetitively abused by a former female spouse, I feel called upon to raise a voice, albeit a feeble one, in objection to your anti-masculine rage screed, which is based on false information and seeks only to perpetuate your own unconscious sadism.

"As a published author I will not bother to present the voluminous data which contradicts your puerile assertions, nor will I bother to say that the group stereotyping that you engage in is the foundation of cruelty and callousness; I know that reason and compassion are wasted on you. I can only hope that you, and people like you, will someday realize that caring for others is more worthwhile than demonizing them.

Moral of the story: If you're into stating your position,  etc., go for it!  But watch how you come across; especially if you blast others. It may come back to haunt you.
