I
asked God to take away my pride.
And God said, "No."
God said, "It is not for me to take it away,
but for you to give it up."
I asked God to grant me patience.
And God said, "No."
God said that, "Patience is the by-product of coping
with life's difficulties.
It isn't granted; it is earned."
I asked God to give me happiness.
And God said, "No".
God said, "I give blessings.
Happiness is up to you."
I asked God to spare my pain,
And God said, "No".
God said, "Some pain is unavoidable and necessary.
It shatters your illusion that you control everything
And it brings you closer to me.
Besides, while pain is inevitable, suffering is optional.
It all depends on how you handle trouble".
I asked God to make my spirit grow.
And God said, "No".
God said, "You must work for growth and discipline your soul.
But I promise to prune you to make you fruitful".
I asked God, "Do you really love me?"
And God said "Yes, so much so that I want you to be completely free
to do as you will.
I want to win you in love
not force you by power".
I asked God to open my heart to the grace of love
so that I could at last really love myself
and share that love with others.
And God said,
"Ah finally, you have the idea"..
